The BCCI has finally made a decision regarding the accommodation of the Indian men’s cricket team at the Asian Games. The Indian cricket board will make separate accommodation arrangements for the men’s team at its own expense. However, the women’s team will stay at the accommodation designated by the Asian Games organisers.

The BCCI has finally made a decision regarding the accommodation of the Indian men’s cricket team at the Asian Games. The Indian cricket board will make separate accommodation arrangements for the men’s team at its own expense. However, the women’s team will stay at the accommodation designated by the Asian Games organisers.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia explained that the men’s team has a larger support staff, taking the total number of cricket team representatives beyond the stipulated limit of 20. As a result, separate arrangements have to be made for the men’s contingent. The women’s team, on the other hand, has fewer support staff members, allowing its total delegation to remain within the 20-member limit. Therefore, the women’s team will stay at the accommodation provided by the Games organisers.
For some time, there had been discussions over whether the Asian Games organisers would provide suitable accommodation for the cricketers or whether the BCCI would have to make separate arrangements. The board has now opted for the latter in the case of the men’s team, although it has clarified that the decision is primarily due to the size of the support staff.
Saikia also expressed hope that the quality of the playing surface and other facilities would meet the highest standards. Several Asian cricket associations have reportedly expressed concerns in this regard, but the BCCI secretary said the board has full faith in the organisers and expects the facilities, infrastructure and arrangements to be of the highest quality.
Saikia acknowledged that hosting the Asian Games is a massive undertaking and expressed confidence that the organisers would make the necessary arrangements. He added that he will travel to the venue on October 1, when he expects to get a clearer picture of the overall arrangements.
The BCCI secretary also made it clear that the board attaches great importance to winning gold at the Asian Games. That is why India are sending their best available T20I side to the continental multi-sport event.
