Xtra Time Web Desk: In a major development, the Mizoram Football Association (MFA) has banned three clubs, 24 players, and three officials for alleged involvement in match-fixing during a recent competition in the state. The clubs—Sihphir Venghlun FC, FC Bethlehem, and Ramhlun Athletic FC—have been banned from participating in football activities for three years for allegedly manipulating matches in the Mizoram Premier League (MPL).

The MFA revealed its findings after investigations with local law enforcement confirmed corruption involving certain clubs, officials, and players during the MPL-11 season. The association imposed strict penalties, including life bans for two players, five-year bans for four players, three-year bans for 10 footballers, and one-year suspensions for eight more.

The MFA condemned the actions as a severe breach of football's integrity, expressing disappointment over the incident. "These activities represent a serious violation of our core values and disrespect the fans who passionately support Mizoram football," the association said in its statement.

The association also assured that any clubs found complicit in match-fixing would face future sanctions, and players and officials involved would face appropriate disciplinary measures. Sihphir Venghlun FC, one of the top four clubs in the league, lost in the semi-finals to Aizawl FC, the eventual winners.
