Xtra Time Web Desk :In a significant announcement, France captain Kylian Mbappe has confirmed he will not be participating in the Paris Olympics 2024, citing his commitment to his new club, Real Madrid. Speaking at a press conference during the Euros, the 25-year-old football star revealed that Real Madrid were not in favor of him playing in the Olympics, a decision he respected to avoid starting his tenure with the Spanish giants on bad terms.

"I understood the club's position from the moment it was communicated," Mbappe stated ahead of France's Group D match against Austria at Euro 2024. "Given that I'm joining a new team in September, it's not the best way to start an adventure. My priority is to integrate well with Real Madrid and start on a positive note."

Mbappe had previously expressed a strong desire to compete in the Olympics, especially since France is the host nation this year. However, the men's Olympic football competition, running from July 24 to August 9, overlaps with the off-season, a period during which clubs are generally reluctant to release their star players due to the risk of injury.

Despite being left out of the 25-man preliminary squad announced by head coach Thierry Henry earlier this month, Mbappe had initially held onto hope for participation. But Real Madrid's clear stance on the matter led him to accept the situation.

"I'm going to wish this French team all the best. I'm going to watch every game and hope they'll win the gold medal," Mbappe added, showing support for his national team despite his absence.

Mbappe's transfer to Real Madrid, finalized on June 3, 2024, after Real Madrid's Champions League victory, marked a pivotal moment in his career and the footballing landscape. The move concluded a prolonged pursuit by Real Madrid, who had made significant efforts to acquire the player, including a massive bonus offer of nearly 150 million euros in January 2024. Mbappe's decision to leave Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for Real Madrid was driven by his longstanding aspiration to join the Spanish club.

The star forward expressed his excitement and pride in joining Real Madrid, thanking fans for their unwavering support. The transfer signifies a new chapter for Mbappe, Real Madrid, and PSG, with Mbappe poised to make a significant impact at his "dream club."
