Xtra Time Web Desk: Kylian Mbappé, the World Cup-winning striker for France, sustained a broken nose during France’s 1-0 win against Austria at the Euros on Monday. The injury occurred following a collision with Austria’s Kevin Danso during the Group D match at Düsseldorf Arena, leading to Mbappé being substituted. France coach Didier Deschamps was initially unsure if the injury would sideline Mbappé for the remainder of Euro 2024.

Mbappé was promptly taken to a hospital in Düsseldorf where the extent of the injury was confirmed by the French Football Federation. “He will undergo treatment in the coming days, without undergoing surgery immediately,” the Federation stated. “A mask will be made so as to allow the number 10 of the French team to consider resuming competition after a period devoted to treatment.”

Later, Mbappé addressed the incident on social media, posting, “Any ideas for masks?” on X.

The injury occurred during an aerial collision when Mbappé’s face struck Danso’s shoulder, leaving his nose bloodied and swollen. The pain was evident as Austria goalkeeper Patrick Pentz signaled for medical assistance.

Despite the injury, France confirmed that Mbappé has returned to the team’s training camp with the rest of the squad. The French team remains hopeful that with the protective mask, Mbappé can continue to contribute to their Euro 2024 campaign after his recovery period.
