AFC Cup 2023: Mohun Bagan Supergiant thrash Abahani 3-1 to qualify for group stages
Xtra Time Web Desk: Mohun Bagan Supergiant thrashed Abahani Dhaka 3-1 in the South Zone Playoff stage match at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan on Tuesday. The home side made a terrific comeback after trailing by a goal in the 17th minute.
Australian footballer Jason Cummings scored the equalizer for the Mariners in the 38th minute from a penalty. The Mariners were awarded a penalty after Liston Colaco was brought down in the box trying to get at the end of the second ball after the keeper initially saved a shot from the left wing.
The home side stretched the lead immediately after the breather. Milad Sheikh put the ball in his own goal in the 58th minute to make it 2-0 for the Green & Maroon brigade.
Armando Sadiku sealed the fate for Juan Ferrando’s team by scoring the third goal in the 60th minute. Boumous long range shot was saved by the keeper for the corner. The quick corner finds Colaco and he finds Sadiku to get the two-goal lead.
Abahani Dhaka did not really create many chances in the second half and its star player Cornelius Stewart was kept quiet after he created quite a few problems in the first half.
