Xtra Time Web Desk: You ask any Indian about Mahatma Gandhi, he or she will instantly remember the father of the nation. But another Mahatma Gandhi is making huge strides in Brazilian football. Mahatma Gandhi Heberpio Mattos Pires, a 23-year old midfielder from Goiania who plays for Atlético Clube Goianiense, a top-level club in the country's Serie A league is making quite a name for himself in domestic football.

Matteo has already played about 1000 minutes of football since joining the club in 2011. His record for Atlético GO has been fairly decent till now. The club has lifted the Goiano 1 domestic trophy twice and has finished runners-up once.

Talking about the great Mohandas Gandhi, he had a very strong connect with football in South Africa. He helped set up three football clubs in Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg which were all called Passive Resisters Soccer Club. Gandhiji was also a football aficionado and greatly responsible for shaping the Transvaal Indian Football Association in 1896, the first 'organized football association' that was run by non-whites, during his stay at South Africa as a practicing lawyer.

It is unknown what the future holds for the Brazilian Mahatma Gandhi but like the great Indian leader, he also prefers not to be violent on the pitch.
