XtraTime Web Desk: Two times former World Cup winning captain MS Dhoni should be allowed to retire whenever he feels the right time, feels former India coach Gary Kirsten. The wicketkeeper batsman has been out of competitive cricket since the 2019 World Cup semi final clash against New Zealand at Old Trafford, sparking debates about his retirement.

Recently there was hashtag titled #DhoniRetires that was making rounds in the social media site twitter. But the man himself is unperturbed as he is spending his quality time with family at his farmhouse in Ranchi.

In a bid to stake claim for a place in the national squad for T20 World Cup, the veteran cricketer from Jharkhand was eyeing a return in IPL 13 but the coronavirus pandemic has forced BCCI to suspend the cash rich league for an indefinite period.

In an interview to TimesofIndia.com, Kirsten said, “MS (Dhoni) is an incredible cricketer. Intelligence, calmness, power, athleticism, speed and a match-winner separate him from others and put him amongst the greatest sportsmen in the modern era.”

The former Team India coach also added,“He (Dhoni) has earned the right to leave the game on his own terms and no one should dictate to him when that time is."

Both Gary Kirsten and Dhoni were at the helm of affairs when India lifted the 2011 World Cup in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

Talking about that special night, Gary said,“It was a fantastic journey with the players and very fond memories of the World Cup. There were a lot of expectations from the players to win the World Cup and they handled it incredibly well.”
