The controversy surrounding Imran Khan’s imprisonment has continued to draw attention in recent weeks. But for former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad, the issue became deeply personal.
Speaking emotionally about his former teammate, Javed Miandad questioned what he described as an injustice being done to one of Pakistan cricket's greatest figures. The two shared a dressing room through the 1980s and early 1990s and were part of Pakistan's historic 1992 World Cup-winning campaign.
In an interview with a YouTube channel, Miandad broke down while defending Imran's character and calling for his release.

The remarks come amid growing concerns over Imran's health and conditions in prison. The former Pakistan prime minister, 73, has been lodged at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since 2023 following his conviction in corruption cases.
Reflecting on their years as teammates, Miandad said that differences never came in the way of their shared commitment to Pakistan. “We didn't have any rivalry,” he said, stressing that both always fought for the country. His remarks came after Imran's sons, Sulaiman and Kasim, spoke about their father's situation during Sky Sports' coverage of the Lord's Test.
Questions have also been raised over his recent medical examination. Imran's party has challenged the process after Pakistan's Supreme Court directed that he be taken to Shifa International Hospital and given access to doctors, including his personal physician.
For Javed Miandad, however, this was more than a political debate. His words reflected the concern of a former teammate watching a man he once shared cricket's biggest moments with now living in isolation.
Imran Khan remains Pakistan's only World Cup-winning captain, having led the country to its historic 1992 triumph.
