Xtra Time Web Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to defer the announcement of the IPL 2024 schedule until the Election Commission of India (ECI) announces the polling schedule for the General Elections in 2024. During a meeting in New Delhi, the IPL Governing Council, representatives from some franchises, and senior BCCI officials discussed the IPL schedule and unanimously decided to await official communication from the Election Commission of India regarding the election dates.

A senior official present at the meeting stated that the BCCI has no choice but to wait for information on the General Elections' polling schedule, which is anticipated to coincide with the IPL timeframe. While there were precedents in 2009 and 2014 when the IPL was relocated due to security concerns during elections, the BCCI is optimistic about hosting the entire tournament within India, as successfully done during the 2019 polls.

In the 2019 General Elections, conducted in seven phases from April 11 to May 19, with vote counting on May 23, the ECI announced the schedule on March 10. Notably, more than two weeks before the ECI announcement, the BCCI disclosed the schedule for the first two weeks of IPL 2019 on February 19, assuring that the remaining fixtures would be revealed post the complete poll schedule disclosure.
