Xtra Time Web Desk: Former India all-rounder Ajit Agarkar looks to be the frontrunner to be the new selection committee chairman. Agarkar, who is currently in UK has already applied for the post. The 45-year-old played 26 Tests, 191 ODIs and 4 T20s for India. He was the bowling coach for Delhi Capitals in the recently held IPL 2023.The former Mumbai cricketer was linked to the chief selector's post in the past as well, but this time, he is likely to get the high-pressure job.

Another name that is making rounds is former selection committee chairman Dilip Vengsarkar. It is learnt from reliable sources that a section of BCCI top brass wants Vengsarkar at this post. That was the reason the 60-year-old cap was lifted. But the problem is Vengsarkar has already served as the Chairman of Selection Committee from 2005-2008. Even if he is appointed, he can be at the post for one year.

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) is likely to appoint the chief selector for the Indian men's team — a post that has been vacant since Chetan Sharma's unceremonious exit in February. The last date of application is June 30 and the interviews are likely to be held on July 1.
