XtraTime Web Desk – The season of 2020-21, is becoming very intense as all the top tier teams are dropping points and making the race to the top very interesting.
Atletico Madrid on Sunday beat FC Barcelona by 1-0. Yannick Carrasco scored just before the half-time which gave Atletico a crucial win over the Catalan side.
With this defeat, Barcelona now lost 3 games in their 8 fixtures in this year’s La Liga. They now currently stands on 10th position with just 11 points from 8 matches.
Real Madrid on the other hand had a completely different story. Most of their first team squad is either injured or Covid 19 positive. Thus, Zidane couldn’t place his best 11 when they faced a tough opponent, in form of Villarreal.
Mariano Diaz gave Real Madrid the lead right at the start. He scored a header in the 4th minute of the match but Real Madrid couldn’t hold as they conceded a goal in the 76th minute from a penalty. Gerard Moreno scored from the spot-kick.
Real Madrid’s momentum in La Liga is going down with every match. Currently they stand on the 4th place with 17 points from 9 games while Villareal has 19 points from 10 games and are currently in the 3rd place in the table.
In other La Liga fixtures, Sevilla beat Celta Vigo by 4-2, Levante and Elche drew 1-1 and Osasuna and SD Huesca drew 1-1.
