XtraTime Web Desk: The Indian Super League, since its inception, has seen a lot of twist and turns – both on and off the field. A league which not only has brought the top players of world football in India, but also some extremely good coaches to take Indian football to new heights. Few succeed, unfortunately a few didn’t. Hence, we will share a few names with you who achieved bigger goals after leaving the league.
Jose Molina
Jose Francisco Molina led ATK to their second ISL title in 2016. He then went on to manage Liga MX side Atletico San Luis.
The 49-year-old is currently serving as the Sporting Director of the Spanish Football Federation. The appointment was made after Fernando Hierro stepped down from the role following Spain’s disastrous performance in the 2018 FIFA World Cup
Rene Meulensteen
After being sacked midway through the 2017-18 season at Kerala Blasters, Rene Meulensteen went on to serve as the assistant manager of the Australian national team, with Graham Arnold at the helm. The duo’s furst major test arrived in the form of the 2019 AFC Cup. The Socceroos made it past the Group Stages and defeated Uzbekistan in the last-16 but they were edged 1-0 by UAE in the quarter-finals.
Joao de Deus
The NorthEast United manager of the 2017-18 season went on to become assistant to Portuguese manager Jorge Jesus at Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal. He later is followed Jesus to Brazilian club Flamengo as assistant manager. As fate would have it, de Deus faced his former club and reigning AFC Champions League champions Al Hilal in the semifinal of the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup.
