Xtra Time Web Desk: Jasprit Bumrah has been named as the captain of the Indian test team for the rescheduled fifth test match against England at Edgbaston cricket ground starting from Friday, July 1. But it seems that speculation has been put to rest with Bumrah and Dravid inspecting the 22 yards ahead of the optional training session at the Edgbaston cricket ground.

It is no doubt a setback for India as Rohit Sharma has against tested positive on Thursday morning. Rishabh Pant has been named as the vice captain.

“Mr Rohit Sharma, Captain, Indian Cricket Team is ruled out of the rescheduled fifth Test against England to be played from Friday. Rohit underwent a RAT Test on Thursday morning and returned a positive result for COVID-19.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Mr Jasprit Bumrah as captain for the upcoming Test and Mr Rishabh Pant as his deputy”, confirmed the BCCI release.

For Bumrah, this will be his maiden stint as captain at any level of cricket. He becomes the first fast bowler to lead India since Kapil Dev. Kapil’s last game as India captain was an ODI against England in Mumbai in November 1987.
