The visitors put up a mammoth total of 600 in the first innings. In reply the Sri Lankans were all out 291. Dilruwan Perera was the highest scorer of his side after his good innings of 92 consisting of 10 fours and 4 over boundaries. India though having the option to induce a follow on decided against it and took batting in day three. A strong batting performance yet again saw India taking up a lead of 498 runs. At the end of the games play India was 189-3. Opener Shikhar Dhawan who scored a blasting 190 failed to score and dismissed early after scoring 14 runs. Pujara too was dismissed at 15 before the game was delayed on account of heavy rain. After the game resumed Virat and opener Abhinab Mukund took the charge to hammer the Lankan bowlers. Indian skipper Virat Kohli reached a landmark yet again of scoring 1000 runs overseas as the Indian captain. He remains unbeaten at the crease after scoring 76 runs while Mukund was dismissed on the last ball of day which brought an end to a brilliant innings of 133 runs. The left handed opener was dismissed on 81 after playing a superb innings which consisted of 8 boundaries.
