Internet Desk: Out of favour India cricketer Yuvraj Singh is again in the middle of controversy. The left hander’s decision to undergo fitness training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) at the expense of Ranji Trophy matches has not gone down well with a section of BCCI officials.

The Man of the Tournament of the 2011 ICC World Cup has decided not to skip the recent Ranji Trophy matches for Punjab. He has so far played only one match out of the five matches that Punjab played. Yuvraj scored only 20 and 42 against Vidarbha. His presence at the NCA is being questioned by some of the BCCI officials as there are no injury issues with him at the moment.

It was learnt that Yuvraj is bent on clearing the Yo-Yo fitness test which he has failed in the past, but it has been at the expense of competitive matches. A comeback in the Indian team is also necessary for Yuvraj as he is expected to be back in the IPL auction pool be part of a franchise.

“There aren’t any reports that Yuvraj is undergoing rehabilitation, but we have come to know that he is doing exclusive fitness training to pass the YoYo test. Now whether taking Ranji Trophy for granted is a good thing or not, it’s for Yuvraj to decide.

“Does this mean that if he attains 16.1 (fitness parameter set by the Indian team management) and is without any runs behind him, he will be selected for the limited-overs series versus Sri Lanka?” a very senior BCCI official asked.

The selectors it is learnt has been asked to give importance to Ranji Trophy performances. Recently, Ishant Sharma was released from the test team to play for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy tie against Maharshtra.

It is not yet clear whether chief selector MSK Prasad was kept in the loop about this decision.
