Yashasvi’s inclusion in the Test squad signals the beginning of a transition phase | INDvsWI

Xtra Time Web Desk: Shib Sundar Das led selection committee on Friday picked the test and ODI squads for the upcoming tour to West Indies. The selectors by picking Yashasvi Jaiswal ahead of Cheteshwar Pujara indicated the start of transition phase in test squad. Umesh Yadav too find himself being left out at the expense of Bengal’s Mukesh Kumar.

It was on expected lines that Pujara can be dropped after his failure in the recently concluded WTC Final against Australia at the Oval. The Saurashtra batter is likely to be named as a replacement for Yashasvi in West Zone Duleep Trophy squad.

Meanwhile, for young Jaiswal it is the first big opportunity in the senior team. He has been a prolific run-getter in domestic circuit. The left hander has been in scintillating form with the willow, scoring 1825 runs from 14 matches including 9 hundreds.

In six List A innings, all for Mumbai, Yashasvi has scored 396 runs, with two hundreds. In the IPL 2023 for Rajasthan Royals, the Mumbai batter amassed 1149 runs in 34 innings, including a hundred and eight fifties.
