Image Source: bleacherreport[/caption] Kolkata: Former India spinner Dilip Doshi feels Ravichandran Ashwin will gain more experience as a bowler under India coach Anil Kumble. Doshi, who has taken 114 wickets in 33 test matches heaped high praises on the current No 1 spinner in the world at the moment. “I honestly feel he can gain more experience as a bowler working with Kumble. What I like the most about him is that he is always willing to attack,” said Doshi to xtratime.in correspondent Sabyasachi Bagchi during the tea break from Rajkot. In a brief interaction over phone, the left arm spinner spoke about Ashwin’s success, England’s spinners, Joe Root and on being felicitated at his home ground. Here are the excerpts: Congratulations on being felicitated by Sourashtra Cricket Association. How does it feel? It was a special moment for me. I feel honoured and privileged to be here. This was the same ground where I started my first class cricket career. Feeling a bit nostalgic I must say. And it also gives me more joy to see two cricketers from Sourashtra playing in this test match. What is your assessment about Ravichandran Ashwin? I have seen him bowl in the recent series against New Zealand. I find him to be an intelligent bowler who always keeps thinking on batsman’s minds. He has developed his carom ball which I think is a very important weapon to have in a spinner’s armoury. Why do you think he is not getting the same success abroad? Tell me one thing. Which Indian spinner apart from Bhagwat Chandrasekhar has tasted immediate success playing abroad? Even the likes of Bishen Singh Bedi and Anil Kumble also took time to get success. All we need to do is constantly back him because he is our Number I spinner. Remember during the 2003-04 series, Sourav fought with the selectors to pick Kumble in the side. The result we all know as he took 24 wickets in that series. With Kumble now becoming the Indian coach; can we expect Ashwin to taste more success? Sure, he will. He will always get the guidance of Kumble which will develop his skills. He will be more aggressive as a bowler. How do you rate the current England spin attack compared to the likes of Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar? I must admit the spin bowling duo of Panesar and Swann was much more experienced compared to Rashid and Ali. They are both playing their first series in India. Swann was world class spinner to my mind. He had so much variety. Moeen Ali has also done well for England, winning test matches for his team. England has got Saqlain Mustaq to help them in this series. How will it help Ali and Rashid? I have no doubts that they will be benefited immensely. Saqlain has earlier worked with them. He knows the conditions here having played here. Who according to you are the top three spinners in the world at the moment? I am not in favour of rating anyone. But if you still want me to rank them, I will keep Ashwin on the top followed by Yasir Shah and Nathan Lyon. Do you think Cook should have taken the Review? Yes, it was a bit unfortunate. The ball clearly was missing down the leg. He should have taken the help of technology. If England goes on to lose this test then his dismissal will be debated back home. Lastly a word on Joe Root who scored his first test ton in India? He is a special player. Fortunate to see him bat at county cricket. I am eagerly waiting to see both Virat and Cook bat in this series. It will be a joy to watch these two great batsmen in contemporary cricket.
