Image Source: twitter[/caption] Internet Desk: Messi less Barcelona proved too hot to handle for Gladbach as they posted a win after being a goal down in a Champions League encounter on Wednesday. The La Liga giants were trailing by a first half goal scored by Thorgan Hazard. But goals in the final 25 minutes, from Arda Turan and Gerard Pique, sealed Barcelona’s second Group C win after their 7-0 hammering of Celtic at the Camp Nou a fortnight ago. Barcelona was without their star striker Lionel Messi. Coach Luis Enrique fielded Paco up front alongside Neymar and Suarez. Brilliant defending from Gladbach players hardly allowed Neymar and Suarez any room to play freely in the first half. Gladbach had the better of the opening exchanges at Borussia Park. The home side took the lead with their first dangerous attack. Raffael outran Sergio Busquets and broke into the Barca half before feeding Mahmoud Dahoud. Dahoud in turn timed his pass into the box perfectly for Hazard, who made no mistake in finding the target. Gladbach lead by 1-0 at half time. The Spanish giants managed to get the equalizer in the 65th minute. Turan, who replaced Rakitic was immediately on the scoresheet. Neymar floated a pass over the top of Gladbach defence. Turan won the race to the ball and shot past Gladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer. Barca got the winner nine minutes later Neymar’s corner was deflected into the path of Suarez, who was unmarked in the area. He slammed in a powerful shot, which was blocked by Sommer, but Pique was on hand to tap home the loose ball from close range, to Enrique’s delight. In another high voltage clash in Group D, last year finalists Atletico Madrid got past Bayern Munich by a solitary goal scored by Yannick Carrasco at the Vicente Calderon. The Spanish outfit took a major step towards sealing their berth in last 16 as they ended Bayern's dreams of a sixth European Cup title. Los Rojiblancos could have stretched their lead had Antoine Griezmann converted a spot kick in the second half. The Spanish side took the lead in the 35th minute. A perfectly timed pass from Griezmann found Carrasco whose powerful shot beat Neuer to hit the post and bounced into the net. Bayern did pushed hard to find the equalizer but not without any success. The hosts lead 1-0 at half time. Late into the second half Griezmann got a great opportunity to double the advantage when a reckless Arturo Vidal challenge on Filipe Luis led to an 84th minute penalty, but the No.7 hit the crossbar as he had done in last season's final. In a Group A clash Arsenal eased past Basel 3-0. Theo Walcott netted twice in the first half at the Emirates Stadium to leave Arsenal, now unbeaten in their last eight matches in all competitions, with four points from their first two Group A matches. The Gunners took the lead early in the 7th minute. Santi Cazorla lofted a deft high pass towards Alexis Sanchez, who timed his run perfectly to escape Basel’s offside trap. He advanced into the penalty area and crossed the ball toWalcott who headed home from close range. Once again it was Sanchez and Walcott who put Basel to the sword, exchanging passes at dizzying speed. Walcott picked out Sanchez, and then raced onto his return ball and, from 12 yards out, drilled low into the far corner for his fifth goal of the season. Celtic claimed their first Champions’ League Group C point as Pep Guardiola's perfect record in charge of Manchester City was ended with a draw in Glasgow. The hosts led twice in the first half, Moussa Dembele diverting in Erik Sviatchenko's header and Kieran Tierney forcing an own goal by Raheem Sterling. Fernandinho's strike brought City level first time and Sterling showed composure to net the visitors' second. Nolito equalised for the visitors again after Dembele had netted on the turn.
