Commonwealth Games 2022: Sanket Sargar wins silver in weightlifting 55 kg category
Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India opened its medal tally at the Commonwealth Games 2022 with weightlifter Sanket Sargar clinching the silver in the men’s 55kg category. Malaysia's Aniq Kasdan won gold.
Sanket lifted a total of 248kg (113kg in snatch, 135 in clean and jerk) while Malaysia's Aniq Kasdan, who lifted a total of 249 kg (107kg in snatch, 142kg in clean and jerk. The Malaysian weightlifter needed a Commonwealth record of 142kg in clean and jerk to win the gold.
Had it not been an elbow injury to Sanket when he tried to lift 139kg in his second clean and jerk attempt, the weightlifter from Maharshtra would have won gold. Sanket was not able to lift 139 and finished with the silver medal. Sri Lanka's Dilanka Yodage won the bronze medal with a total of 225kg.
