Kolkata: The Kolkata Maidan has been part of so many memorable incidents in the past, which broke the walls of rivalry, hatred and the known warfare on the ground. Tuesday’s gesture by East Bengal Head Coach Khalid Jamil will certainly remain one of those very special days, as his intent proved yet again that football is more than just a game and the rivalries are limited on the ground only.

Mohun Bagan Head Coach Sanjoy Sen had a bypass surgery a few days back and still admitted to a nursing home near EM Bypass. Today, the East Bengal gaffer himself went to the nursing home to see the Mohun Bagan Head Coach and wished him a speedy recovery. The two head coaches always have a healthy off-the-field relationship and have huge respect for each other, which is quite an uncommon picture in the football rivalries.

The East Bengal Coach went in the afternoon and when he came out, he told the media, “I have huge respect for him. I wish his speedy recovery. I also want him back on the field very soon.”

On being asked about Khalid’s gesture, East Bengal top official Debabrata Sarkar said,”This is a noble gesture by Khalid Jamil and I am personally very happy with it. We all are praying for his speedy recovery. I will go to meet Sanjoy Da in a couple of days time.”

No doubt, this could turn out to be a lesson for the years to come. The relationship between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan would remain a strong statement for the other coaches as well.
