Internet Desk: Exactly nine years ago today, the current India skipper Virat Kohli, made his debut today at Dambulla in the year 2008, where the Men in Blue will face the hosts Sri Lanka in the first of five ODIs on August 20.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to social media to remind everyone of this day and their Twitter post read: “Few things never change – only the legend grows. #ThisDayThatYear In 2008, @imVkohli sat on this very chair during his debut game #SLvIND”

Kohli too posted the same image where he sat ahead of playing his first ODI in 2008. He thanked BCCI too for giving him the chance. The Twitter post read: “It all started on this very chair, this very date and this very ground. 9 years today with the Indian cricket team! So grateful. @BCCI

Kohli’s first outing was not that good as he could only manage to score 12 runs while opening the innings with his fellow team mate from Delhi Gautam Gambhir. After that knock many had thought he won’t go far, but Kohli’s perseverance and skill made the critics eat their own words. With his talent and dedication he has become one of the best batsmen of the World Cricket right now.

Only the batsmen like Steve Smith and Joe Root can be compared to him. Under Virat’s captaincy the Indian Test team have showed tremendous performance and that’s why they are at the top of ICC Test rankings. Such has been his brilliant track record that he is compared to the likes of Sachin Tendulkar (in batting) and MS Dhoni (as a leader).
