Internet Desk: Records kept tumbling one after another as Virat Kohli went on a run spree against Sri Lanka on the third day of the second test match at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Jamtha. The Indian captain on reaching his 19th test ton created a world record of most international hundreds in a calendar year as a captain. It was the 10th international hundred for Kohli in 2017. The Indian captain scored 6 hundreds in ODI’s and 4 tons in test matches.
Kohli broke the record of former Australian captain Ricky Ponting who scored 9 hundreds across two formats twice in 2005 and 2006. Former South African captain Graeme Smith also had nine international hundreds to his credit once.
The Delhi batsman also became the first Indian captain to score 12 hundreds, one more than the great Sunil Gavaskar. Kohli is just one short of catching former India captain Sourav Ganguly who has 11 ODI tons as captain.
As an international captain with minimum 10 hundreds in Tests, Kohli has the best conversion rate — even better than Sir Don Bradman and Michael Clarke.
In 31 Tests, where Kohli has been the captain, he has crossed 50-run mark 16 times and converted them into three figures on 12 occasions. This makes it a staggering 75 per cent conversion rate.
Both Bradman and Clarke’s conversion rate from 50 to 100 as captains have been 66.66 percent.
While reaching his fifth double hundred today, Kohli equalled former West Indies legend Brian Lara’s record of scoring 5 double hundreds as captain. Legendary Sir Don Bradman, Michael Clarke and Smith have four each.
