“We are made to pay for Quess’ wrongdoing”: Debabrata Sarkar on SC East Bengal’s transfer ban by FIFA

FIFA has imposed a transfer ban on SC East Bengal after receiving a complaint from former Costa Rican World Cupper Johnny Acosta.

Xtra Time Web Desk: Indian Super League club SC East Bengal on Tuesday has received a letter from FIFA about the club being sanctioned to sign a new player in the upcoming transfer window which starts from June 09. The governing body of world football served a notice to East Bengal on the basis of a complaint received from former Costa Rican World Cupper Johny Acosta about unpaid salary. The correspondence from the FIFA player status committee was made on June 1 and the AIFF has sent a letter to the current Shree Cement East Bengal management on June 7.

Confirming the FIFA letter which was sent to the club by investors Shree Cement on Tuesday morning, club official Debabrata Sarkar said, “We got to know about the transfer ban. Shree Cement has communicated this through a letter. It’s true. We are taking immediate action.”

Mr Sarkar directly blamed erstwhile investors Quess Corp for such a situation.

“This is a fallout of the one-sided termination by (former investors) Quess Corp Ltd. Now we are made to pay the price for their (Quess’) wrongdoing. We are very much worried about the club’s future.”

The transfer ban will mean SC East Bengal will not be able to sign any player until and unless the issue is settled. The Red and Golds’ transfer ban comes at a time when the club is already marred with the controversy surrounding the ongoing tussle between the club officials and investor Shree Cement.
