Internet Desk: Indian test captain Virat Kohli welcomed Anil Kumble’s appointment as the coach of Indian team. India will be embarking on a tough one year ahead as they play as many as 13 test matches against teams like Australia, New Zealand, West Indies and Bangladesh. Virat tweeted; he expects great things with Kumble as the coach.
Indian test opener Shikhar Dhawan has also welcomed Kumble as the coach on twitter.
Kumble’s former teammate Virender Sehwag termed it as a jumbo news for Indian team. He described Kumble’s resilience by citing the example of Antigua test in 2002 where he bowled with a broken jaw.
Not to be left behind was Kumble’s partner with the ball Harbhajan Singh. Bhajji termed it as great news for Indian cricket.
Former India opener Gautam Gambhir wished the leg spinner will take Indian cricket to new heights and termed the appointment as the best option for BCCI.
Another former India opener Deep Dasgupta who was part of that Indian team that toured West Indies in 2002 feel, “Kumble always reminded of someone who is a fierce competitor and performer. He was someone who always been level headed and has minds of steel.”
Deep went on saying, “He is easily the biggest match winner for India.”
Former India opener Debang Gandhi who played alongside Kumble for a brief period termed the selection as, “I think it is the right choice as a coach.”
He also feels the bowlers will be immensely benefitted under Anil Kumble particularly someone like Ashwin.
Former selector and cricketer Ashoke Malhotra feel Kumble is the right choice to be appointed as the coach of Indian team. According to Malhotra, “He had a brilliant sense of match reading. He should have been appointed for more than a year.”
Former India captain and manager Ajit Wadekar and Bishen Singh Bedi too welcomed Kumble’s appointment as the India coach.
According to Ajit Wadekar, “He is the best choice to coach Indian team at present situation.”
While Bedi feels, “One who picked wickets on overseas conditions, will be a great inspiration to the bowlers. The current bowling line up will be benefitted immensely.”
Former captain and legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble was appointed India’s full-time head coach for a year by the BCCI’s cricket advisory committee on Thursday. The position was left vacant for 15 months after Duncan Fletcher chose not to renew his contract following India’s exit from the 2015 World Cup.
Ravi Shastri, who was also in the fray to become coach, continued as team director till the 2015 World Cup with mixed results across formats. However, Kumble’s appointment is being seen as a massive step.
