Xtra Time Web Desk: Indian and RCB captain Virat Kohli as well as DC pacer Ishant Sharma took their first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine earlier today, with Kohli taking to Twitter to urge others to get vaccinated as soon as they possibly can. “Thankful for this and grateful for all the essential workers. Happy to see the smooth running of the facility & management. Let’s all get vaccinated at the earliest,” he said in a tweet post. The second jab of the vaccine, however, is the bone of contention, as it is not clear as to how the Indian players are going to get it.

So far just a few of the Indian players have been able to get a jab of the vaccine. In an interview to ANI, a BCCI official said that they would need some more time before a clear picture could be drawn with regard to the completion of vaccination for the Indian Test contingent headed to UK. “The Indian government has opened vaccination for every person above 18 so the players can take their first dose. But the second dose is the question here and while the BCCI is looking at working closely with the England and Wales Cricket Board to ensure players can get a second dose in the UK, if that is not approved by the UK government, we will have the vaccine taken from India for the second dose. Let’s see how that works out in the coming days,” the official explained. It remains to be seen how the situation pans out for everyone involved.
