Video: Lankan cricketers Dickwella, Mendis caught breaching bio-bubble in Durham, SLC launches investigation

Sri Lankan cricketers Niroshan Dickwella (L) and Kusal Mendis spotted on the streets of Durham on Sunday night.

Xtra Time Web Desk: Two Sri Lankan cricketers Niroshan Dickwella and Kushan Mendis are in the centre of news for all wrong reasons. The duo was spotted breaching bio-bubble in Durham ahead of the ODI series against England. The two cricketers were seen roaming on the streets of Durham following their embarrassing T20I series loss to Eoin Morgan’s team. A video of the duo has been doing rounds on the social media where they were seen roaming around along with other Sri Lankan cricketers on Sunday night.

The video which was shot around 11:30 PM shows Kusal Mendia with a cigarette in his hand while not wearing a mask. Niroshan Dickwella was the other cricketer with him.

Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has already launched an investigation into the whole incident. If the players are found guilty of breaching bubble norms, after verifying authenticity of the video footages circulating on social media platforms, “appropriate action” will be taken.

Cricketers from both England and Sri Lanka are not allowed to step outside the hotel other than practice sessions. Already the series has come under scanner after ICC Match Referee Phil Whitticase, who officiated in the 3rd T20I match tested positive for COVID-19. While no players from either side returned positive test, the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has been forced to replace the entire pool of match officials for the 1st ODI.
