Xtra Time Web Desk : Liverpool FC on Wednesday sealed a 2-0 win over underdogs Villarreal FC in the 1st leg of the UEFA Champions League 2021-22 semi final at the Anfield stadium.
Starting the match as the undoubtedly favourites, Jurgen Klopp’s had the huge advantage in terms of possession as a result of which they played attacking brand of football throughout the match, for which the club is known to the world.
The former European Champions although came close to the goal on many occasions, but could not convert them into goals until the deadlock was broken by an own goal in favour of the home side by Villarreal’s Estupian in the 53rd minute of the match which was then doubled by the Reds’ dynamic forward, Sadio Mane on the 55 minute mark.
The game after that saw no more goals, and the match was sealed by the brilliant team display of Liverpool.
The second leg in Spain however is expected to be a cracking one, especially with the unpredictable potential that Unai Emery’s Villarreal possesses.
