Internet Desk: Reigning champions Real Madrid moved into a commanding position in Champions’ League Group F following a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Legia Warsaw on Tuesday.

Gareth Bale gave the hosts the lead in the 16th minute at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium with a curled left foot drive. It was the Welsh footballer’s first European goal since December 2014.

Real soon doubled its lead through an own goal by Legia’s Tomasz Jodlowiec after a deflection of Marcelo’s shot. Miroslav Radovic pulled one back for the Polish side from the penalty spot but Marco Asensio made it 3-1 in the 37th minute with a low shot on his Champions League debut. Both teams went at the breather with a 3-1 scoreline.

Substitute Lucas Vazquez volleyed home a cross in the 68th minute and former Juventus striker Alvaro Morata rounded off the win in the 84th minute by converting a pass from Cristiano Ronaldo, who is still waiting for his 100th goal in UEFA competitions.

Real are second in Group F, level on seven points with Borussia Dortmund, and both teams will seal their place in the last 16 if Zinedine Zidane’s side win at Legia and the Germans beat Sporting Lisbon at home on Nov. 2

In another Group F clash Borussia Dortmund got past Sporting 2-1 thanks to superb first-half goals by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Julian Weigl. Bruno César pulled the Portuguese league runners-up back into the game when an indirect free-kick was back-heeled to him midway through the second half but Borussia held on for a valuable away win.

Elsewhere, second-half substitute Juan Cuadrado earned 10-man Juventus a 1-0 win at Lyon after Gianluigi Buffon pulled off a couple of superb saves to keep the Serie A leaders afloat. Cuadrado netted the only goal in the 76th minute, seven minutes after replacing Paulo Dybala as Juve were down to 10 men following Mario Lemina’s sending-off nine minutes into the second half. Buffon saved Alexandre Lacazette’s 35th-minute penalty and made a couple of decisive saves before Cuadrado struck the winner.

Premier League champions Leicester continued their winning run in the Champions League with a 1-0 win over Kobenhavn. Riyad Mahrez scored the winner for the Foxes in the 40th minute. It is 3 in 3 for the Algreian striker as he scored in all the Champions League fixture so far for the Foxes.
