The Mariners are currently placed in second position in league table behind srch rivals East Bengal, who have a better goal difference. Bagan’s opponent Aizawl FC has done well so far winning four matches. The North East side has so far collected 13 points from 6 matches, winning four matches and drawing against East Bengal. The side coached by Khalid Jamil was also handed out a defeat by Chennai City FC. Aizawl FC is coming from a win against DSK Shivajians courtesy a last minute goal from S Brandon. According to Sanjoy Sen, “They are a good side and are very well organised. I know their coach (Khalid Jamil) very well. He knows how to play against East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. I have discussed with my players about their style of play during the practice session today. I have followed all their matches on TV except the last one. Our target will be to get 3 points from the match.” Mohun Bagan coach is having to plan his strategy keeping in mind that he have to keep all his players fit as the Mariners have to play the I League and AFC Cup matches simultaneously. “I have to give rest to my players, at the same time I need to field the best possible team in order to get the full points. We faced a similar problem last season as well but the players were ready to take on the challenge. This season is no different,” said Sanjoy Sen to the reporters after the practice session at Rabindra Sarobar stadium. There is some good news for the gaffer as Kingshuk Debnath is fully fit. However Brazilian defender Eduardo is still troubled with his sore back. Eduardo will be having a MRI today to assess the nature of his injury. He did not take part in the practice session as well. Bagan top officials Srinjoy Bose and Debasis Dutta were at the Rabindra Sarobar stadium to encourage the footballers. The Mariners registered a morale boosting win against Colombo FC in AFC Cup Qualifying play-offs last Tuesday. On being asked whether the win against a foreign opponent will give his side the confidence to do well as the season progress, the gaffer said, “It is no doubt the win against Colombo FC will boost our confidence. It’s taken for granted that winning against teams from countries like Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar is no big deal. But I know it does get tough to snatch full points against them, playing in their conditions. Although the ground in Colombo was good, but they gave good account of themselves in the first half. Luckily we managed to score a goal in the second half. The win will definitely boost our confidence.” It was surprising to see Shilton Paul standing under the bars in the match against Colombo FC. The gaffer was asked whether there will be more surprises in the future as well, Sanjoy Sen said, “If you remember Shilton played in the last three matches when we won the I League two seasons back. There will be times when I will play Shilton or for that matter anyone who I feel can do the job for me.”

The win against Colombo FC will give us confidence, says Sanjoy Sen
