Sunil Chhetri said he learned about football and Mohun Bagan from Subrata Bhattacharya

Xtra Time Web Desk: During the launch event of Subrata Bhattacharya’s autobiography ‘Sholo Ana Bablu‘ at Mohun Bagan Club on Saturday, Indian football captain Sunil Chhetri was present. Standing among former football stars and legends, Sunil expressed how Mohun Bagan and football itself represent Subrata Bhattacharya’s true essence. He emphasized that for him, Mohun Bagan meant Subrata Bhattacharya, and vice versa.

Sunil said, “In 2002, I came to this ground (Mohun Bagan Ground) for the first time. When I came from Delhi, I had no idea what it meant to play at Mohun Bagan. What are the emotions of jersey, that if you are sad, you have to play football; if you are happy, you have to play football; you forget everything and just play football. This man (Subrata Bhattacharya) has helped me understand and learn all these things.”

Adding to the praise, the Indian football captain said, “Subrata Bhattacharya always told me one thing, ‘Give your best, play for the club, play for the jersey.’ That’s what I learned from him. The way Subrata Bhattacharya loves Mohun Bagan, I don’t know if anyone else loves it more than him. And undoubtedly, Mohun Bagan means Subrata Bhattacharya and Subrata Bhattacharya means Mohun Bagan.”

On this special occasion, both Mohun Bagan and East Bengal clubs extended their appreciation to Sunil Chhetri for his contributions to Indian football.
