Kolkata: Mohun Bagan’s Haitian winger and heart-throb Sony Norde might miss the first game of the Hero I-League campaign for his club against Churchill Brothers. In an interaction with www.xtratime.in, Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen said, “Sony will become a proud dad in the next few days. I understand how precious a moment this can be for him.” He added,”Family always comes first and at this auspicious moment it is quite normal that he won’t be able to focus on the game. I’m happy for him but I always believe in team and his absence won’t make a big difference.”

It is also learned that Haiti will play a couple of FIFA Friendlies against Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago on 3rd and 8th January respectively. This might prevent him to join the Green & Maroon brigade as well, before their opening game. Though the Bagan coach said,”I heard he was supposed to join the 2nd or 3rd January. But if there are international duties, I’m not sure about his availability in the first game.”

Sony has been a stellar performer for the Mariners ever since he joined them. In fact, he was the man who played the leading role in bringing the first Hero I-League title to Kolkata. The Haitian didn’t play too many games this season in the Hero Indian Super League and that keeps the Bagan coach in some anxiety about his current condition.

Meanwhile, the Bagan coach has released his young right back Abhishek Das to join Minerva FC of Punjab on loan. He said,”I always want my players to be in playing conditions and certainly in Minerva, he will get more playing time which will keep him match-fit. It will also be good for his future.”
