The fast bowler from Bengal has been out of the Indian team since the third test match against England in November. He has been the standout bowler for India before injuring his right knee. The fast bowler was seen travelling with the Indian team in Ranchi and Dharamsala. He was also seen bowling at the Indian nets at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) during the second test match at Bangalore. Indian team physio Patrick Farhat has been monitoring Shami’s fitness closely. A dejected Shami did not hide his disappointment. “I was always willing to have a go at the Aussies but unfortunately my injury stopped me. Hopefully, I will get back to full fitness and make a comeback in the Indian team,” said Shami on his arrival at the Netaji Subhash International Airport in Kolkata. Shami, was also accompanied by Wriddhiman Saha. The fast bowler is focused to getting back to his rhythm soon. He is targeting the IPL matches for regaining his old form. “To perform or not entirely depends on God Almighty. But, yes it is good that I have got an opportunity to test my fitness. It is nice that I can assess my bowling in the IPL. I will get a good platform to get my rhythm back. I will try and get back to my rhythm with the white ball,” said Shami to the reporters. The fast bowler also appreciated Virat’s gesture to take drinks in Dharamsala in-spite of his injury. According to Shami, “What more can you ask from the captain?  In-spite of injury, Virat carried drinks bottle for his team-mates. To me that shows how involved he is as captain. To see the captain sharing his inputs during the drinks break is no less inspiring for the players.” Umesh Yadav has bowled his heart out in the series. The KKR fast bowler took the mantle of pace spearhead in the absence of Shami. Umesh had a haul of 17 wickets from 4 test matches. On being asked how he felt like watching Umesh, Shami said, “It’s good to see him bowl in the series. In fact the fast bowling department as a whole did a superb job. Umesh has been outstanding, particularly the way he controlled the pace with swing with the new ball. He was good with the old ball as well, reverse swinging to perfection. Hopefully he can carry on the rhythm.”
