Sania Mirza to retire after Dubai Tennis Championships

Xtra Time Web Desk: Ace Indian tennis player Sania Mirza has decided to retire after the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships next month. The 36-year-old Sania will hang her boots finally, bringing an end to a glorious career. Sania has won six Grand Slam titles – three doubles and three mixed doubles title.  The former World Doubles No 1 will also be in action at the Australian Open. She will pair Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina at the Melbourne Park.

Sania decided to return to the courts last year. She is all set to bid farewell to the sport in Dubai, where she has a huge fan base.

“The plan is to try and retire in Dubai during the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships,” she said in a recent interview to wtatennis.com in Dubai.

“I’m 36, and honestly my body is beat, that is the main reason for it. And I really don’t have the capacity in my mind to emotionally push that much anymore. I turned pro in 2003. Priorities change, and now my priority is not to push my body to the limit every single day,” said Sania.

Sania Mirza will go down as an all-time great Indian women tennis player in the history.
