Xtra Time Web Desk : On Saturday, India won against Lebanon in the semi-final of the SAFF Bangabandhu Championship in a penalty shootout. As a result of this win, the head coach Igor Stimac was ecstatic and interim coach Mahesh Gawli was impressed.
In the group stage, India showed a great performance against Kuwait, resulting in a draw, and the Indian head coach was shown a red card. Consequently, the semi-final was watched by Igor Stimac from the VIP gallery. Naturally, he appeared jubilant after the victory.
Mahesh Gawli stated, “We played for him, and we will do the same in the final. I still believe there was injustice in the match with Stimac. I still can’t understand why he was suspended for two matches; he didn’t hurt anyone.”
Regarding the match, Mahesh said, “In the first 15 minutes, Lebanon quickly attacked us, causing us problems. But after that, we dominated the match. If we had utilized our opportunities, we would have won in 90 minutes.”
In the final of the SAFF Bangabandhu Championship 2023, India will once again face Kuwait, whom they drew against in the group stage.
