Root, Bairstow help England script history at Edgbaston; beat India by 7 wickets

Xtra Time Web Desk: Unbeaten centuries from Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow helped England achieve record run chase against India on the fifth day of the final Test in the delayed five-match Pataudi Trophy at Edgbaston cricket ground on Tuesday. With their unbeaten innings of 142 and 114 respectively, ​​Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow saw the hosts home by seven wickets.

The win meant, England have drawn the series level 2-2, denying India to win a test series on English soil after 15 years. Root-Bairstow were involved in an unbeaten 269-run stand to take England home. England now have won all four of their last Tests. 

Resuming at 259/3 with still 119 runs to win, England made short work of India’s famed bowling attack. They chased down the target with ease even before lunch was taken on Day 5. Bairstow remained unbeaten on 114 while Joe Root remained not out on 142.
