Internet Desk: Women’s Hockey team of India faced a blow with less than a month in hand before the Rio Olympics. Captain of Indian Hockey team left the squad. The Hockey India also admitted the news.

The squad of Indian Hockey Team will be announced on 12th July. Before that the team is in a practice camp at Bengaluru. On Thursday Ritu Rani left the camp. It is assumed that she was about to be cut off from the squad to be announced on 12th. Before the Hockey India to announce the list Ritu left the team camp.

“It’s really immature on part of Ritu (to leave the camp) because the team is not yet announced. It will be officially announced only on 12 July when I will publicly open the sealed envelope”, said HI president Narinder Batra. However, any official letter has not been filed by Ritu.

Officials confirmed of her exclusion from the team. An official of Hockey India confirmed, “It’s correct – Ritu is not in the Olympic team. Her exclusion is solely on two counts – her (poor) performance and second is her attitude”.

Ritu was in the Hockey India squad when she was 14years old. She became the captain of women’s team in 2011. She was the first captain of Indian women’s hockey team to lead the squad for the first time in Olympic 1980. As a senior team member her deed has been described as immature.

The team management has already declared the replacement names for Ritu Rani. The leadership will be bestowed upon another senior player Rani Rampal.

The Indian women’s hockey team practicing in Bangaluru will be completing practice today. They will leave for Delhi tomorrow. From there they will leave for Rio.
