Internet Desk: Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo showed their brilliance as Zinedine Zidane’s team created a new record in European Club football. The league leaders defeated Real Betis by 2-1 margin to regain their top spot in the La Liga table with a game to spare, compare to Barcelona.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s headed equaliser before half-time meant Los Blancos had scored for the 48th game in a row, surpassing the total set by Benfica over 50 years ago.
Benfica managed 47 consecutive goal-scoring games between December 1963 and January 1965.
The last time Zinedine Zidane’s men drew a blank was back in April in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Manchester City at the Etihad.
The run has naturally coincided with strong results with Madrid having notched 34 wins, 11 draws and just three defeats since that clash in Manchester.
More importantly for the club the victory on Sunday meant they took advantage of Barcelona’s earlier defeat to Deportivo and returned them to the top of the table.
Keylor Navas’ horror own goal had made things tough for the home side but Ronaldo’s header and Cristiano Piccini’s red card put them back in the driving seat.
