Ravichandran Ashwin’s special preparation for ODI series against Australia

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India’s experienced off-spinner spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was named in the ODI squad for the three match ODI series against Australia, which starts at Mohali on September 22. The veteran off-spinner is leaving no stone unturned to make a successful return to the 50 overs format with an eye to make it to the World Cup squad in place of injured Axar Patel. Ashwin, who is currently at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru has decided to play a 50-over match in Chennai’s VAP Trophy’s one-day league for Take Solution MRPA side.

37-year-old Ashwin boasts of a wealth of experience with 113 ODIs under his belt, including India’s victorious 2011 World Cup campaign. Despite having played only two ODIs in the last six years, he remains an asset to the team. Captain Rohit Sharma emphasized Ashwin’s experience during a recent media conference, reassuring any concerns about his limited game time in ODIs.

Ashwin’s commitment to preparation is evident as he visited the NCA for physical maintenance and skill development under spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule’s guidance. His most recent ODI appearance was in January 2022, where he has taken 151 wickets in 111 ODI innings.

As the Indian team assembles in Chandigarh on September 20 for the first ODI against Australia on September 22, Ashwin is determined to validate the trust placed in him by the captain, selectors, and team management. After his local league match in Chennai, he will fly to Mohali to join the squad, showcasing his dedication to being fully prepared for the upcoming series.
