‘Ranchi ka Gayle’ Robin Minz, who became a multi-millionaire cricketer lives his dream to become next MS Dhoni | IPL2024auction

Xtra Time Web Desk: Gujarat Titans made a significant acquisition at the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai on December 19 by securing the services of Robin Minz, a promising 21-year-old tribal cricketer from Jharkhand. With a base price of Rs 20 lakh, Minz attracted an intense bidding war involving four franchises Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Eventually Robin was brought by Gujarat Titans for a whopping amount of 3.6 crore which was 18 times more than the base price.

The left hander hails from Gumla, a place famous for producing hockey stars like Bimal Lakra. Robin, who aspires to replicate Jharkhand’s famous son MS Dhoni is the first tribal cricketer from the state to bag a multi-millionaire contract in IPL. Robin could be in line to make his IPL debut next year with the Titans having Wriddhiman Saha and Matthew Wade as their two other ‘keeping options.

Son of an army man, Robin trains under Chanchal Bhattacharya who was behind the rise of MS Dhoni. The youngster currently trains at Sonnet Cricket Club iunder three coaches. Asif Haque, who works on his batting, compares him to West Indian powerhouse Chris Gayle. That is the reason why Robin is known in domestic circle as ‘Ranchi ka Gayle’

Minz was always on the radar of the IPL teams since the last auction. He went unsold though in IPL 2023 auction. The youngster received calls for trials from the Delhi Capitals, MI, Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the IPL 2023 auction, but failed to find a buyer.

Renowned for his powerful batting, left-handed batter can take the IPL by storm with proper opportunities and guidance. There is no doubt that if Robin lives up to his potential, he can emulate his seniors Ishan Kishan and Jharkhand’s biggest son MS Dhoni.
