Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India captain Rohit Sharma and Head Coach Rahul Dravid will be attending the selection committee meeting to pick the Asia Cup 2023 squad in Delhi on Monday. BCCI top hierarchy wanted Dravid also to be part of the selection committee meeting and share his views. It is to be noted Dravid’s predecessors Ravi Shastri and Anil Kumble did not take part in any selection meetings during their tenure as Head Coach.  Following the selection committee meeting, Rohit and Agarkar will attend a press conference which again is happening after a long time.

It seems Ajit Agarkar led selection committee will opt for a 17-member side for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The talking point of the selection committee meeting will be the fitness of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. Rahul looks to have recovered completely while there are still doubts over Shreyas Iyer’s fitness. Both Rahul and Iyer’s fitness will be assessed during the camp which starts at the National Cricket Academy from August 23.

The selectors will be also looking at the performances of Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson and Prasidh Krishna who are taking part in the ongoing T20I series against Ireland before taking a final call.

The BCCI top brass and selectors could opt for a safer option that gives them an opportunity to check all available players in the five (six if they reach final) Asia Cup games in Sri Lanka. The Asian Cricket Council has kept provision for 17-member squads for Asia Cup.  Pakistan, Bangladesh has also named 17-member squads.
