Kolkata : Indian middle order batsman Ajinkya Rahane puts all onus of getting out after being set on himself and Cheteshwar pujara for India’s final score of 237/7 after close of day 1 of the second test against New Zealand. Ajinkya Rahane who himself scored 77 runs and had a 141 runs stand with pujara on the 5th wicket.  blamed the lapse of concentration after tea for the downfall of their wickets.

Speaking to the media in the post match press conference Ajinkya said,” Me and Pujara should take the blame as we were set and if any of us would have scored a century then the score would have been different. We had few soft dismissals, i think partnership with me and Pujara was crucial for us i think 250-240 for 4 or 5 would have been good for us”.

Talking about the wicket Ajinkya said,” this is not typical calcutta wicket there is something in the wicket and two pace as well. we didn’t expected a two paced wicket generally Calcutta wicket is flat and helps the batsmen to play their shots”.

Regarding India’s chances of winning the Test match Ajinkya said,” In the first innings if we get 320 to 325 runs that will be a very good total in the first innings but we will have to bowl well as we need to take their wickets early and bowl tight line and length”.

Ajinkya admitted there was a lapse of concentration after the tea break and probably that could be one reason of both him and Pujara getting out.

He praised the New Zealand bowling and said.” Jitan patel bowled very well, Trent Boult and other bowlers well too. They did’nt give us easy runs so credit goes to them’.

Regarding the low turn out on the first day of the Test match Rahane opined,” we have always appealed to the fans to come and watch the match but if we look into the perspective of the fans it is hot and humid there and with hardly any shades over their head it is difficult to watch the match continuously, but whatever crowd has come to see the match they have supported us and we liked it”.

With Wriddhiman Saha and Ravindra Jadeja still on the crease India can expect there total to reach 300 and with the pitch already helping the spinners it will boost the moral of the Indian team tostrike early when they come on to bowl New Zealand.
