PV Sindhu nominated for a rare honour

Internet Desk: India’s star shuttler and Rio Olympics silver medalist PV Sindhu has been nominated for the prestigious Padma Bhusan award by the Sports Ministry of India today. Sindhu is in red hot form after winning the silver medal at the Rio Olympics last year in Badminton in Women’s singles category. She is the second sports person in India after cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni who have been nominated for the country’s third highest civilian award.

“Yes, we have recommended Sindhu for Padma Bhushan,” a Sports Ministry official told PTI.

Sindhu also won the silver medal at the World Badminton Championships last month, later she beat Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara 22-20, 11-21, 21-18 to become the very first Indian shuttler to win the Korea Open Super Series title. Last week she jumped two places to reach the position of World No.2 in the BWF women’s singles rankings.

In the year 2015, Sindhu was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honor.
