Internet Desk: At least three lady athletes can qualify for the final of their respective events in Rio Olympics, hopes ace athlete P T Usha. However, she claimed that medal winning is not their cup of tea.

This year more than 100 athletes have been qualified for Rio Olympics. Yesterday also the number increased by three. Among them more than 68 men and 55 women. Several athletes also deserve medals from the games.

Among the women athletes joining Rio Olympics former Olympic participant P T Usha bets on three. According to her, “In athletics, we cannot say who will win a medal. Participation itself is good. Tintu Luka, Lalita Babar and Sudha Singh, stand a good chance of qualifying for finals, only thing they have to do is better their performance.”

Tintu is gold medalist in Asian championship in her 800 m. She also won gold as a team in 4*400 m relay. However, this year she could not perform better. She has the experience of participating in Olympics. In 2012 she also participated in the 800 m. In the semi-final she completed sixth scoring 1:59:69, which was her season best.

Both Lalita Babar and Sudha Singh are taking part in 3000 m steeplechase event. Sudha is also a participant of marathon. Lalita is the gold medalist of 2015 Asian Championship in her first appearance. Babar was named as the Sports Person of the Year in the India Sports Awards 2015 organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of India. Sudha however, does not have the big medals. Still P T Usha has her faith on Sudha.

Apart from the women athletes she also has her confidence on the men’s relay team and triple jumper Renjith Maheswary. Usha said, “Even in the triple jump, the performance has been good.I can’t say who is going to win the medal, it is all luck”.

Regarding the participation of Indians in Rio Usha is not at all contended. She said, “This time a huge number of Indian athletes have qualified for Rio. They should try to better their performance, then we can really say we are doing good”.
