XtraTime Web Desk – From a net bowler to make his debut for India in tests, Washington Sundar has seen it all. After, Ravindra Jadeja got injured in the 3rd test at SCG, it was more or less clear that he’s going to make it debut for India in the red ball cricket.

Speaking about journey, Sundar said, “First of all, I want to thank the management for asking me to stay throughout the test series cause I felt I’ll improve in my skill level. Both for batting as well as for my bowling”.

He added, “Last week has been amazing for me. The management has asked me to be ready to play this game and I was very excited and definetly a dream come true. I want to dedicate this to my family.

Washington Sundar in his debut took the wicket of Steve Smith. A big wicket to start his test career. About that Sundar said, “We had some plans for Labuchagne and Smith and I’m really glad that we got. My first wicket, it really felt good”.

Navdeep Saini got injured in his groin and was taken for scan. Sundar however couldn’t give an update on the situation. He said, “I’ve no idea. We really hope that he comes back and bowls the first over tomorrow”.

When asked about his preparation for red ball cricket, Washington said, “I always felt that my skill levels are good in red ball. I have bowled a lot in first class and a lot in first Division league in Chennai. So, I’ve bowled a lot in red ball and was waiting for this opportunity”.

Whether or not Ashwin helped him taking Steve’s wicket, Washington said, “Yes, we did have a plan. It’s a different game all together. Last game was different, the condition was different. I had to bowl good balls over and over again to get him out”.
T. Natarajan was one another player who made his debut on Friday. His story to success in the white ball cricket won everyone’s heart and on Friday, he finally made his debut in tests. “I think Nattu bowled really well today. He brought us back in the game. The way Labuchagne and Wade was having a partnership and get both of them out. Making debut alongside him and he’s a champion bowler and hope he does really well in the test”.
