Kolkata: Mridul Banerjee was appointed the coach of Bengal team in Santosh Trophy on Tuesday. The Mohammedan SC coach was preferred over the other shortlisted candidates by the Coaches Committee of Indian Football Association (IFA).

Mridul Banerjee will be assisted by Partha Sen while Hemanta Dora will be the Goalkeeper coach. The decisions were taken by the coaches committee chairman Manoranjan Bhattacharya.

The Mohammedan coach requested the IFA to reconsider its decision as he will be coaching his club team in the 2nd Division League. According to Mridul, “I told the IFA about my problem since the Santosh Trophy will be held almost the same time with 2nd Division League.”

IFA secretary assured the Mohammedan coach that he will ensure that the dates do not clash. “I will request the AIFF to schedule the dates of Santosh Trophy in such a manner that it won’t clash with the 2nd Division League,” said Mr Ganguly.

Meanwhile Nasim Ali has been appointed as the coach of Sub Jr. Bengal team.
