Kolkata: East Bengal footballers will get a boost as Coach Trevor James Morgan returned from Australia after visiting his family. The East Bengal coach arrived last night from Perth via Singapore to Kolkata. He will start training the boys from tomorrow at the club ground. The gaffer, who went back home was in Perth for 10 days.

The Red and Gold players have been training under academy coach Ranjan Chowdhury. Haiti international Wedson Anselme was the lone foreigner training under Chowdhury.

Australian striker Christopher Payne is also back after spending time with his family. His wife is expecting a child. Payne will start training from tomorrow.

Most of the players have been missing due to national duty. Ugandan Ivan Bukenya is likely to join the practice from March 30. The burly defender is spending time with his family.Willis Plaza is busy in Trinidad to play FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.

East Bengal assistant coach Warren Hackett, who is serving a suspension by AIFF is also back after holidaying in Goa. The British coach expressed his disappointment to xtratime.in.

“I think the punishment was a bit too harsh,” according to Hackett.

East Bengal is placed second in I League points table. The Kolkata giants have so far garnered 27 points from 14 matches. League toppers Aizawl FC is on 30 points from the same number of matches. Mohun Bagan, having played a couple of matches less is on 22 points.

East Bengal will play arch rivals Mohun Bagan in their very first match after the break at Siliguri’s Kanchenjunga Stadium on April 09. The Red and Golds will play their remaining three matches against DSK Shivajians (home on April 16) , Minerva FC (home on April 23) and Mumbai FC.
