Internet Desk: Mohun Bagan confirmed their second spot by beating Bengaluru FC 5-0. Cornell Glen scored a brace (8’, 66’) while Lenny Rodrigues (21’), Luciano Sabrosa (23’) and Azharudin Mallick (28’) scored each for Mariners. The Blues were handed Rs 1crore while runner-up Mohun Bagan received 60 lakhs.

Bengaluru FC was deep into trouble as they were down to 10-men in the 51st minute. Keeegan Pereira was given the marching orders through a second yellow card after he blocked Prabir Das to get inside the box.

Bengaluru FC was crowned champions last Sunday itself when they defeated Salgaocar 2-0 at Kanteerava stadium. So it was almost a meaningless match for the Blues but the Mariners were desperate for a victory to seal the second spot. Ashley Westwood rested his 3 foreigners from the playing XI as well as Sunil Chhetri and Eugensen Lyngdoh. The gaffer took Mohun bagan lightly as they were confirmed as champions.

The Green and Maroon brigade sealed the deal in the 28th minute itself netting the first four goals. Cornell Glen headed the first goal in the 8th minute from a Sony Norde’s cross and the rally continued till the 28th minute either from Lenny, Luciano or Azharudin Mallick. Cornell Glen nailed the last pin in the coffin in the 66th minute. Cornell Glen was adjudged Man of the Match.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru FC captain Sunil Chhetri was handed the trophy by AIFF secretary Kushal Das. Amrinder Singh was awarded the Best Goalkeeper of the I-League, John Johnson was awarded with Best Defender while Eugensen Lyngdoh was awarded with Best Midfielder award and Ranti Martins of East Bengal with Best Forward award. Ashley Westwood was awarded Best Coach while Sony Norde was awarded with the Hero of the I-league trophy.

In aother match at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, Sporting Clube de Goa defeated Salgaocar 3-0.
