Mohammed Shami visited Mumbai to consult orthopaedics for an ankle injury

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India’s star pacer Mohammed Shami is currently undergoing medical treatment for an ankle injury, raising concerns about his availability for the first Test against South Africa on December 26. Shami’s name remains in the Test squad with a star mark, and the BCCI stated that his participation is subject to fitness. The nature of the injury has not been specified, but sources reveal it is not an on-field injury. Shami visited a sports orthopedic in Mumbai for diagnosis and is expected to undergo rehab at the National Cricket Academy.

Shami, who missed the initial matches of the recently concluded ODI World Cup, played a crucial role after joining the team due to Hardik Pandya’s injury. He secured 24 wickets in seven games, contributing significantly to India’s success before the final loss to Australia. His potential participation in the three-day intra-squad match before the first test against Proteas on remains uncertain.

While he may skip white-ball games for now, Shami is crucial for the upcoming seven Test matches, including five against England. His performance in the Indian Premier League will likely determine his role in next year’s T20 World Cup, considering his past success with the Gujarat Titans.
