Internet Desk: Australia coach Darren Lehmann praised Glenn Maxwell for his response after being fined for his criticism regarding his fellow team-mate Matthew Wade, with the big hitting all-rounder a chance to play the final ODI against New Zealand.

Maxwell has not featured in the first two ODIs, both won by Australia as the hosts wrapped up the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy, after controversially hitting out at wicketkeeper Wade – his captain in the Victoria state side.

The outspoken 28-year-old was fined for his criticism of Wade, with Maxwell claiming the former should be battling below him at seven.

Lehmann, however, praised Melbourne-born Maxwell’s attitude since the incident ahead of Friday’s final ODI against the Black Caps at the MCG.

“He’s been fantastic, full credit to him, the way he’s handled it and the way he’s been around the group and getting prepared to play each and every game,” Lehmann said on Thursday.

“We’ve named the team quite late both times because we’ve only got down to the ground just before basically, so it’s been a late call.

“He’s missed out last minute and he’s handled that really well.

“I’m really pleased the way he’s gone about it, and I know the players are, the way he’s dealt with it.

“For him, he’s just got to be ready to play, as we say to all our squad members. If he gets his opportunity, away he goes.”

Lehmann added: “Home track, he’s a chance. Once we see the wicket we’ll have a better idea. Everyone is a chance.”
