Internet Desk: Milestones and Cristiano Ronaldo seems to go hand in hand as the Portuguese superstar has now scored more than 30 goals for a record seventh time in La Liga. Ronaldo scored a brace to give Real Madrid a 2-0 win over Sporting Gijon on Saturday. The win also consolidated Real’s lead at the top of La Liga.
The 31-year-old, who had a slow start to the campaign, followed his hat-trick against Atletico last week. He has now scored 51 goals in 2016.
The Portuguese international is also in front of the milestone of scoring his 100th goal in European competition. He has so far scored 98 goals. He will have an opportunity to get the milestone when Real face Borussia Dortmund at the Bernabeu in their final Champions’ League group stage game on December 7.
Real head coach Zinedine Zidane heaped praise on the Portuguese, who has come under criticism this season for his form, and says he is fully fit and raring to go.
“That’s what Cristiano is like, he can score goals at any moment,” said Zidane.
“When he doesn’t score goals everyone thinks he is not playing well. Today he scored twice and worked hard, down the wings and in the middle. He is fully recovered.”
